A stretched and upgraded development of the CRJ line, the Bombardier CRJ-700 was built for the 70-seat regional market. First flown in 1999, the aircraft measures 32.5 metres long with a maximum takeoff weight of 33,000 kg. The -700 introduced larger overhead bins and an improved cabin over the earlier 50-seat CRJ-200, addressing the most common passenger complaints while keeping the family's operating economics. It became a common sight in the regional networks feeding major US carriers.
