Fleet Overview
Qatar Airways operates approximately 230 aircraft and is consistently ranked among the world's top airlines by Skytrax and other industry bodies. Based at Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, the carrier has built an aggressive expansion strategy since its relaunch in 1997, growing to serve over 170 destinations. Qatar Airways holds stakes in several carriers including IAG (British Airways parent), LATAM, Cathay Pacific, and RwandAir, giving it a unique portfolio position in global aviation.
A350 Fleet
Qatar Airways is the world's largest A350 operator with approximately 65 A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft. The A350-1000, the longest variant of the family, is deployed on ultra-long routes such as Doha–Auckland (QR920), Doha–Dallas/Fort Worth, and Doha–San Francisco. Qatar was the launch customer for the A350-1000. The A350-900 serves European and Asian routes including Doha–London Heathrow, Doha–Tokyo, and Doha–Sydney. The aircraft features Qatar's award-winning Qsuites in Business Class.
777 Fleet
Boeing 777 variants form the backbone of Qatar's high-capacity routes with approximately 80 aircraft in service:
- Boeing 777-300ER: ~60 aircraft, high-demand routes including Doha–New York JFK, Doha–London Heathrow, Doha–Singapore
- Boeing 777-200LR: ~6 aircraft, ultra-long-range missions to Los Angeles and Houston
- Boeing 777F: ~26 aircraft operated by Qatar Airways Cargo
Qsuite Business Class
Qatar Airways' Qsuite — launched in 2017 — set a new industry standard for Business Class. The 1-2-1 configuration features a private suite with a closing sliding door, double-bed capability when seats in the middle pair are combined, and multiple privacy configurations. Qsuite is installed on A350-900, A350-1000, and select 777-300ER aircraft. The product has won Skytrax Best Business Class seven times and remains the most imitated product in aviation.
A380 Fleet Status
Qatar Airways operates approximately 10 A380s, down from 13 pre-pandemic. The A380 flies high-capacity trunk routes including Doha–London Heathrow, Doha–Paris CDG, and Doha–Bangkok. Qatar had a highly publicized dispute with Airbus over surface paint degradation (MSUD issue) on A350 aircraft that led to legal proceedings and a temporary fleet grounding by Qatar's regulator in 2022. The dispute was settled in 2023. Qatar has not ordered additional A380s.
Order Book
Qatar Airways has placed significant orders for Boeing 737 MAX aircraft (up to 50 737-10s) for regional and medium-haul expansion, and has confirmed orders for additional A350s. The airline was an early customer for the 777X, ordering 60 aircraft (50 777-9 + 10 777-8), though delivery timelines remain delayed to 2025 and beyond. Qatar also selected the A321XLR for future medium-haul routes as it seeks to reduce reliance on widebodies for thinner routes.
