Fleet Overview

Singapore Airlines (SIA) consistently ranks among the world's top carriers for product quality. The airline operates a modern two-family widebody fleet centered on the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787, with a small number of A380s retained for flagship routes. As of 2024, SIA's mainline fleet numbers approximately 120 aircraft, serving over 100 destinations in 40 countries. Singapore's Changi Airport (SIN) serves as the hub, routinely rated the world's best airport by Skytrax and a critical Asia-Pacific transit point. SIA is a member of the Star Alliance and a 56%-owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings, Singapore's state investment company.

A350 Fleet

Singapore Airlines is one of the largest A350 operators globally with around 60 aircraft across two variants:

  • Airbus A350-900: ~48 aircraft, the primary long-haul type. Configured in three classes with 42 Business Class seats (1-2-1), 24 Premium Economy seats, and 187 Economy seats. Deployed on key routes including Singapore–London Heathrow, Singapore–Sydney, Singapore–Tokyo Narita, and Singapore–Mumbai.
  • Airbus A350-900ULR (Ultra Long Range): ~7 aircraft, a unique SIA-exclusive variant with extended fuel capacity of 158,000 liters and a range exceeding 9,700 nautical miles. The ULR enables the world's longest commercial flights: Singapore–New York Newark (SQ22/SQ21, approximately 18–19 hours) and Singapore–Los Angeles (~17 hours). The ULR is configured in just two classes — 67 Business Class and 94 Premium Economy — reflecting the demand for rest on ultra-long flights.

787 Dreamliner Fleet

SIA operates approximately 30 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, the longest variant of the Dreamliner family at 68 metres. The 787-10 is deployed on medium-haul regional routes where its range and fuel efficiency excel:

  • Singapore–Tokyo (Narita and Haneda): Multiple daily frequencies, ~7 hours
  • Singapore–Sydney: Daily service, ~8.5 hours
  • Singapore–Hong Kong: High-frequency short-haul, ~3.5 hours
  • Singapore–Mumbai and Delhi: India trunk routes

The 787-10 seats around 337 passengers aboard SIA in a two-class layout: 36 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 full-flat configuration and 301 Economy seats. SIA was the launch customer for the 787-10 variant.

A380 Fleet

SIA retired its A380 fleet during the pandemic but subsequently brought most back into service. Approximately 8 A380s remain active on high-demand trunk routes. SIA's A380 is configured in four classes and is the only commercial aircraft to carry SIA's legendary Suites first class product:

  • Suites (upper deck): 6 fully enclosed private cabins per aircraft. Double beds for travelling couples, 1.93-square-metre personal floor space, sliding doors, and a 24-inch IFE screen. Suites command fares upwards of SGD 10,000 one-way.
  • Business Class (upper deck): 78 seats in a 1-2-1 forward-facing configuration with fully flat 76-inch beds.
  • Premium Economy (main deck): 36 seats with 38-inch pitch and 8-inch recline.
  • Economy (main deck): 271 seats, 32-inch pitch, 11.1-inch screens.

Routes include Singapore–London Heathrow and Singapore–Tokyo Narita. SIA has not ordered additional A380s and will gradually phase the type out as it ages through the early 2030s.

Cabin Products — Economy and Premium Economy

SIA's cabin products win consistent industry recognition across all classes. Premium Economy, introduced in 2015 and refreshed in 2023, features a 38-inch pitch seat with an 8-inch recline, a 13.3-inch IFE screen, and a dedicated cabin. Economy Class across the fleet features 32–34 inch pitch with 11.1-inch screens on A350/787 aircraft, 3-3-3 or 3-4-3 configurations, and complimentary meals across all routes regardless of flight duration. SIA is one of the few airlines still providing complimentary meals on all flights, including short-haul within Asia.

Future Fleet Plans

Singapore Airlines has ordered 20 additional A350F freighters for SIA Cargo and placed an order for Boeing 737-8 aircraft for regional subsidiary Scoot. The mainline carrier is evaluating a replacement for the aging 777-300ER fleet, with the 777X and A350-1000 both under consideration for the late 2020s. SIA aims to maintain an average fleet age under 8 years, one of the youngest among full-service carriers globally. The airline has also committed to using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on 10% of flights by 2030, in line with Singapore's Changi Airport SAF blending program.
