The variants primarily differ in fuselage length: A318 (31.4m, 107 seats), A319 (33.8m, 140 seats), A320 (37.6m, 180 seats), A321 (44.5m, 220 seats). The Airbus A320 first flew on February 22, 1987, and entered service with Air France in April 1988. It was the first commercial aircraft with digital fly-by-wire controls and sidestick controllers, setting the template for all subsequent Airbus designs.
