Frequently Asked Questions
The Airbus A350-900 typically seats 300 passengers in a standard three-class configuration with first, business, and economy. In a two-class high-density layout, it can carry up to 440 passengers. The cabin is 5.61 m wide at armrest level, the widest in its class, allowing airlines to offer 18-inch-wide economy seats in a 3-3-3 configuration.
The Airbus A350-900 has a maximum range of approximately 15,000 km (8,100 nautical miles). This comfortably covers ultra-long-haul routes such as Singapore to New York, Dubai to Los Angeles, or Paris to Santiago. The A350-900ULR (Ultra Long Range) variant, operated exclusively by Singapore Airlines, extends range to 18,000 km for the world's longest commercial flights.
The A350-900 cabin features a pressurization altitude of just 1,830 m (6,000 feet), lower than most older aircraft at 2,440 m. The cabin humidity is maintained at a higher level than conventional aircraft, significantly reducing passenger fatigue on long flights. LED mood lighting with 16.7 million color combinations, larger windows, and a wider fuselage cross-section contribute to an overall improved passenger experience.
Qatar Airways was the launch customer for the A350-900, receiving the first aircraft in December 2014. Other major operators include Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Delta Air Lines, Lufthansa, and Finnair. The A350-900 has accumulated over 750 orders, making it the most popular A350 variant. It has become especially popular with European and Asian carriers for long-haul operations.
The A350-900 is a slightly larger aircraft than the 787-9, seating about 300 passengers versus 290 in comparable configurations. The A350-900 offers longer range at 15,000 km compared to the 787-9's 14,140 km and burns about 25% less fuel than the 777-200ER it often replaces. Both aircraft use composite fuselages and offer similar cabin comfort improvements, but the A350 has a wider cabin cross-section suited for nine-abreast economy seating.
