The De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400, marketed as the Q400, is the fastest and largest turboprop in regular airline service. It seats about 74 passengers, up to 90, and two Pratt & Whitney PW150A engines give a cruise of 556 km/h and a top speed of 667 km/h — approaching regional-jet pace — over a range near 2,040 km. First flown in 1998, the aircraft is 32.8 metres long with a maximum takeoff weight of 29,574 kg. By pairing jet-like speed with turboprop fuel economy, the Q400 suits routes under about 1,500 km where operators want to trim block times without the higher fuel burn of a regional jet.
